Targeted Services
Get excitED! Your student has been invited to participate in an Edina Public Schools summer learning experience. Following MN Department of Education best practices, this invitation-only program is designed to help students build math, reading, academic and social/emotional skills using a blend of direct instruction and hands-on, project based learning.

Program Highlights
Students enrolled in excitED! will:
- identify their strengths and begin to build connections between their learning, purpose and community
- build reading and math skills with their home room teacher
- participate in four enriching, integrated learning modules featuring inquiry, authenticity and community partnerships. Examples include:
- Art and Technology with CreateMpls
- Visual Communications and Computer Science with Code Saavy
- Sustainable Polymers Science with Hennepin County 4-H
- Readers Theater with excitED! staff
- Creative writing with 826 MSP curriculum

What is excitED?
excitED! is the summer Edina Public Schools Targeted Services program. Targeted Services is a state-funded, invitation-only program that offers additional learning opportunities to identified students who would benefit from the program and are able to independent, safe and successful within the program. Targeted Services programs are purposefully designed to build academic skills, as well as to help students develop social/emotional skills.
My student has been invited to attend. Are they required to attend?
Participation in Targeted Services programs like excitED! is optional. The registration deadline is April 14, and enrollments will not be accepted after that date.
What curriculum is used for math and reading instruction?
For math, we will use Moving with Mat curriculum. For reading, we will use district-approved curriculum including Being a Reader, Being a Writer, Sonday System and Heggerty Phonemic Awareness.
Can my child attend only morning or afternoon? Can my student attend just one week?
excitED! has been intentionally designed as a well-rounded, integrated program. It is a choice-based program with limited space. Absenteeism is disruptive to the class and program. To help us build community and relationships and maximize learning, we ask that all students and families who register for a spot in this program commit to attendance all day, every day the program is in session.
Is lunch provided? What about breakfast?
We ask that students bring a lunch from home each day. Let us know on the registration form if you need help providing lunch for your student each day. Breakfast is not offered.
Can transportation be provided?
Bussing can be arranged when transportation is a barrier to participation. Students who qualify for transportation during the school year are allowed one consistent pickup location and one school year are allowed one consistent pickup location and one consistent dropoff location for the 8 days of excitED!. Bussing can also be provided for students who attend Kids Club before/after excitED! Let us know on the registration form if your student will need district transportation.
My students attend an immersion or dual-language program. What language will be used in excitED?
Targeted services programs are governed by many requirements from the State of MN Department of Education. By statute, all targeted services programs must be offered in English.
