Summer Volunteer Opportunities for students entering grades 9-12

1. Youth Enrichment Camps (volunteers: entering 9-12th grades)  

Location: Valley View Middle School & Edina Community Center
Dates: June 3 - August 15, Mondays - Thursdays (no classes June 19 or the week of July 4)
Shift Options: 
  • Morning Camp: 8:45 am - 12:00 pm
  • Afternoon Camp: 12:45 pm - 4:00 pm
  • Full Day Camp: 8:45 am - 4:00 pm (volunteers will need to bring their own lunch)
Description: Edina Community Ed is offering over 400 enrichment camps and classes for youth to nurture a love of learning, support academics, and grow skills in the arts, technology, sports, and more! Each enrichment class is one week long (M-TH). Participants are grades Kindergarten through grade 8. Volunteers are paired with a camp and will assist an instructor, facilitate activities, and work directly with the camp’s participants by engaging with them as a leader/role model. Volunteers must commit to a minimum of two weeks of summer camp (does not have to be consecutive.)
 

2. Unified Peer Volunteers (volunteers: entering 7-12th grades)  

Location: Valley View Middle School

June 10-13 8:45 am-12:15 pm Sensory Exploration
July 22-25 12:45 pm-4:15 pm Theater Together
July 29-Aug 1 8:45 am-12:15 pm Cooking Magic
Aug 5-8 12:45 pm-4:15 pm Fit and Active
Aug 12-15 8:45 am-12:15 pm Team Building Games
 
Description: Help our community become more inclusive by volunteering with summer Unified Enrichment camps run through Edina Community Ed. You will help students with disabilities feel welcome and meaningfully engaged in camp activities and interactions. We ask that volunteers attend a one-hour training session and commit to serving all four days for at least two weeks of Unified Camps. 
 

3. Preschool Summer Camps (volunteers: entering 9-12th grades)  

Location: Early Learning Center 
Dates: June 10 - August 10, (no classes June 19 or the week of July 4)
Shift Options: 
  • Morning Camp: 8:15 am - 11:45 am (Monday - Thursday)
  • Afternoon Camp: 12:15 pm - 3:45 pm (Monday - Thursday)
  • Full Day Camp: 8:15 am - 2:30 pm (Monday - Friday)
Description: Edina Community Ed is offering play-based, developmentally appropriate classes for preschool students! Volunteers are paired with a camp and will assist an instructor, facilitate activities, and work directly with the camp's participants by engaging with them as a leader/role model. Volunteers must commit to a minimum of two weeks of summer camp (does not have to be consecutive.)
 

4. Kids Club School Age Care (volunteers: entering 9-12th grades)  

Locations: 
  • Creek Valley Elementary: entering grades K-3 students who attend Creek Valley, Countryside, or Cornelia
  • Normandale Elementary: entering grades K-3 students who attend Normandale, Concord, or Highlands
  • Cornelia Elementary: all students grades 4-6
Dates: June 10 - August 9, (no  Kids Club on June 19 or July 4-5)
Shift Options: Flexible! 
Description: Volunteers can indicate preference for site and age group they would like to volunteer with! Participants in this program are grades K-6. Volunteers will assist staff with games, activities, and mealtimes. While a volunteer's daily schedule is flexible and based on availability, we do ask that volunteers have a consistent schedule.
 

5. excitED! Targeted Services (volunteers: entering 7-12th grades)  

Location: Countryside Elementary
Dates: July 8 - 18, (no classes June 19 or the week of July 4)
Shift Options: 
  • Morning: 9:00 am - 1:00 pm (Monday - Thursday)
  • Afternoon: 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm (Monday - Thursday)
  • Full Day: 9:00 am - 3:00 pm (students will need to bring their own lunch)
Description: excitED! is an invitation-only, targeted services program designed to help students (entering grades 1-6) build math, reading, academic and social, emotional skills using a blend of direct instruction and hands-on, project-based learning. Volunteers will be paired with a teacher/classroom for all 8 days of the program. Volunteers will assist the teacher with a variety of classroom and administrative tasks, work with individual or small groups of students, and help facilitate activities. Volunteers will be provided with special training to help them excel as classroom leaders. We ask volunteers commit to consistent schedule for all eight days of the program.

After you have completed the application, please let us know what orientation/training session you plan on attending. Volunteers must attend an orientation/training session before volunteering. Orientation/Training sessions will educate volunteers about expectations and best practices when working with you as well as provide an opportunity to connect with your fellow volunteers!
