Summer 2025 Opportunities grades 9-12
The deadline to apply for high school summer 2025 volunteering was March 28, 2025. The application is now closed.
Please note that most volunteer offerings require a two-week commitment (does not have to be consecutive weeks). This consistency is helpful for both participants and staff.
1. Youth Enrichment Camps
Description: Edina Community Ed is offering over 400 enrichment camps and classes for youth to nurture a love of learning, support academics, and grow skills in the arts, technology, sports, and more! Volunteers are matched with a camp and will assist an instructor, facilitate activities, and work directly with the camp’s participants by engaging with them as a leader. Participants are in grades kindergarten through grade 8. Each enrichment class is one week long (M-TH).

Location: South View Middle School & Edina Community Center
Dates: June 9 - August 14, Mondays - Thursdays (no camp June 19 or week of June 30)

Morning Camp: 8:45 am - 12:00 pm
Afternoon Camp: 12:45 pm - 4:00 pm
2. Preschool Summer Camps
Description: Edina Community Ed is offering play-based, developmentally appropriate classes for preschool students! Volunteers are paired with a camp and will assist an instructor, facilitate activities, and work directly with the camp’s participants by engaging with them as a leader.

Location: Early Learning Center
Dates: June 9 - August 7 (no camps June 19, week of June 30, or week of August 11)
Shift Options:
Morning: 8:15 am-11:45 am (Monday-Thursday)
All day: 8:15 am-2:30 pm (Monday-Friday)
3. Kids Club: School Age Care
Description: Volunteers will assist staff with games, activities, and mealtimes. Participants in this program are in grades K-6. Volunteers can indicate their preference for the site and age group they would like to volunteer with.

Location:
- Creek Valley Elementary: students entering grades K-3 who attend Creek Valley, Cornelia, or Normandale schools
- Countryside Elementary: students entering grades K-3 who attend Concord, Countryside, or Highlands schools
- Concord Elementary: all students entering grades 4-6
Dates: June 16 - August 7 (no volunteers on June 19 or the week of June 30)
Shift Options: Kids Club volunteers will choose their schedule based on options provided by volunteer program staff.
4. excitED! (Targeted Services)
Description: excitED! is an invitation-only, targeted services program designed to help students (incoming grades 1-6) build math, reading, academic, and social-emotional skills using a blend of direct instruction and hands-on, project-based learning. Volunteers will be paired with a teacher and cohort for all 12 days of the program. Volunteers will assist the teacher with a variety of classroom tasks, work with individual or small groups of students, and help facilitate activities. We ask volunteers to commit to all twelve days of the program. Volunteers will need to bring their own lunch.

Location: Highlands Elementary School
Dates: July 7-24, Monday - Thursday
Shift Options:
- Morning (8:45 am - 1:00 pm): Assist a teacher in a classroom, then help students transition through lunch and recess
- Afternoon (11:45 am - 3:00 pm): Help students transition through lunch and recess, then guide student cohort to enrichment courses
- Full Day (8:45 am - 3:00 pm)
Summer 2025 Opportunities - NEW! For students entering grades 7-8
1. Unified Peer Volunteers
Description: Make a difference in our community by volunteering with summer Unified Enrichment camps through Edina Community Ed. Your support will help create a positive and meaningful camp experience for our students, ensuring they feel valued and engaged in all camp activities.
We ask that volunteers attend a 1.5 hour training session and commit to serving all four days for at least two weeks of Unified Camps.
Step 1: Potential Unified volunteers must complete an application by April 13, 2025. Link here:
Step 2: Accepted Unified volunteers will be notified of their schedules by April 25, 2025.
Step 3: Unified volunteers will attend a 1.5 hour training session and serve all four days for at least two weeks of camp. Training dates:

2. Tuesday, June 3, 10-11:30am, ECC
3. Thursday, June 5, 4:30-6:00pm, ECC

2. Green Superheroes of Science Teen Teachers at excitED! (Targeted Services) (volunteers: entering 7-8 grade)
Description: A great volunteer in this program is someone who…
is a thoughtful and enthusiastic individual, this volunteer is eager to share their interest in science with young learners. They are committed to educating the next generation about the environmental challenges posed by plastic pollution. Through engaging experiments, they aim to inspire young minds and foster a supportive learning environment where students can explore environmental science concepts and develop a better understanding of these critical issues.
- Step 1: Potential Teen Teachers must complete an application by April 13, 2025: Link here
- Step 2: Volunteers must attend a required, day-long training with U of M extension/4H staff Thursday, June 5 from 9:30 am -3:30 pm at the Edina Community Center.
- Step 3: Volunteers commit to serving all eight days of teaching young students at Highlands Elementary July 7-17

3. Presidential Volunteer Service Award
New! Beginning in the summer of 2025, Edina Middle School students are eligible to earn a Presidential Volunteer Service Award. The President’s Volunteer Service Award recognizes individuals whose service positively impacts communities. The program is led by AmeriCorps in partnership with certifying organizations like Edina Community Ed. Edina Community Ed is facilitating this opportunity in order to encourage our students to become engaged leaders as they explore potential career paths. Click here for more information.
School Year 2024-25 Opportunities
If you are interested in volunteering during the 2024-25 school year and would like to be put on a fall contact list, email Hannah Christianson.
Adult English Teacher
Teach English to adult immigrants and refugees, meet new people in your community, and work with adult English Language Learners (ELLs) as they build literacy skills and achieve their goals. Sound like something you would like to do? Volunteer as an English teacher with Metro South.
- Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting September 3rd
- Classes will take place at the Edina Community Center within the time frame- 9:00-11:30am
- 4-5 hours per week (1-2-hour class, 2 times a week plus prep)
- Must be 18 years or older to volunteer
- No experience or diploma needed - all necessary training will be provided.
- English speakers of all levels are welcome and encouraged to volunteer.
- We strongly encourage volunteers from all backgrounds, levels of education, ethnicities, abilities, and socio-economic statuses.
